Do you want content like this delivered to your inbox?
If you have been tired of your 9-5 job or have been looking for more freedom in a career, real estate may be the right fit for you. I am going to walk you through the six requirements it takes to gain your real estate license and have more freedom in your life!

#1 - Non-Educational Requirements

To become a real estate agent, you must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or the equivalent. You must also be honest, truthful, and of good reputation. In order to prove that this is true, you must have your criminal record reviewed by the Ohio Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing.

Please note that a college degree is not necessary to gain your license in real estate.

#2 - Pre-Licensing Education

In order to gain the proper knowledge to become an expert as a real estate agent, you must complete 120 hours of pre-licensing education. This education must take place prior to taking the real estate exam.

I personally had great success with Hondros College, and some brokerages may even give a discount or allow a reimbursement on your purchase. Oftentimes this will happen if you make a commitment to a brokerage prior to getting your license.

Here are the required real estate topics for the 120 hours;

  • Real Estate Principles and Practice (40 hours)
  • Real Estate Law, Civil Rights, and Fair Housing (40 hours)
  • Real Estate Finance (20 hours)
  • Real Estate Appraisal (20 hours)

#3 - Brokerage Affiliation

In order to practice as a real estate agent you must be underneath a brokerage. What this means is that a prospective licensee must be affiliated with a broker prior to being seated for the exam. The brokerage that you choose will sign off prior to you taking your real estate exam.

#4 - Criminal Background Check

As an applicant to take the Ohio real estate exam you must gain a criminal background check by submitting your fingerprints.

#5 - Submitting Test Application

Once you complete all of your pre-licensing course work it is time to submit your test application. There is typically a fee associated with your application and you must include all of the copies from your schooling certificates.

#6 - Scheduling The Exam

After submitting your application you will be ready to schedule and pass your real estate exam.

In Conclusion: Complete These 6 Steps And Pass

Getting my real estate license was one of the best decisions I have made in my life and you can do it too! Follow these 6 simple steps and study hard, and you will have your license in no time!
